Art in Ephraim Public Library / Our Place: Ephraim Children Responding to Community

  • Ephraim City Hall 5 South Main Street Ephraim, UT 84627 USA (map)

Granary Arts and the children of Ephraim have collaborated to reflect on our community and the ways in which we connect to this place we call home, Our Place.

During our Workshop Wednesday series, a free art workshop for children and families, students created several artworks depicting their favorite places in Ephraim. The drawings show that some of our favorite places in Ephraim can be tracked down on a map, while others must be discovered through curious play, and are only known to the artist.

In one project, we looked to Ephraim’s Main Street for inspiration recreating from memory our favorite spots in paper mosaic. Other students headed east to Ephraim Canyon to create watercolor paintings of the aspens that grow on the Wasatch Plateau. Students painted the trees in different seasons of the year, and some of these paintings tell their own stories through the hand carvings in the bark.

Students at Ephraim Elementary School used their memories of day-to-day life to map out the town. Starting with places they know extremely well (home and school), they branched out to include the homes of friends, parks and stores, favorite trees, open spaces where they play, yards with barking dogs on the walk home from school, and the little nooks and crannies that only they would know.

These artworks share the stories of Our Place through the young eyes of the children in our community.

Please join us for Workshop Wednesdays from 3:30 - 4:30pm! Projects invite students to explore a variety of fine art mediums, materials, and processes. All are welcome.
